A baby penguin is called a chick or a fledgling. Penguins lay eggs and both the male and female penguins take turns incubating the egg until it hatches. When the chick is born, it is covered in soft, fluffy feathers that protect it from the cold. The parents feed the chick regurgitated fish and krill until it is old enough to hunt for food on its own. Baby penguins grow quickly and can start swimming and diving within a few weeks of hatching. They stay with their parents for several months until they are strong enough to survive on their own in the wild. Baby penguins are highly social and playful creatures, often engaging in games with their siblings and other young birds in the colony.
